Jo Anne is an award-winning Long Island photographer, dedicated to creating world-class artistic images for her clients. Her work has appeared in magazines, newspapers, books, brochures and print throughout the world.
Defining Imagery was born out of award winning photographer, J Richards' passion for photography. Interested since childhood in more than just taking pictures, but instead in creating extraordinary images, she recalls repeatedly borrowing a book on trick photography from her Long Island elementary school library.
Although she bought her first camera at the tender age of nine (a plastic model from the toy department that cost only ninety-nine cents!) she never truly indulged herself in the art. Having no desire to play with nasty chemicals, yet demanding full control of the image from capture to print, Ms. Richards suppressed her dream until digital SLRs and Photoshop made photography “her way” possible.
Perhaps it was the decades of waiting that has made her such a passionate photographer today! What viewers most often comment on, as they gaze upon her images, is that they can feel her exuberance for the art, and her love for, and connection to her subjects, through the gorgeous images she creates.
Whether she's shooting a maternity session, children's portraits, a last minute wedding, or a glamour session that makes a woman fall in love with herself, it is always shot from the heart with the passion that results in her uniquely artistic images.
